Add subtitles to a video

Explainers, lectures, internal videos: the caption file is generated for you, and you only fix the mistakes.

Steps

1. Drop the video on "Transcribe and add captions".
2. Choose the spoken language and press Transcribe. Timed captions appear.
3. Fix words and timing. Long lines can be split.
4. Save as SRT or VTT. Need captions in another language? "Translated captions" uses Chrome's built-in AI to write them.

Questions

Is the video uploaded?

No. Transcription and translation run on your computer; press "Network" in the bar to see for yourself.

Can the captions be burned into the video?

The result is a caption file (SRT or VTT). YouTube and most players load it as it is.
